Equipoise
Also known as: EQ, Boldenone, Boldenone Undecylenate, Bold
Lower numbers = closer to natural. Higher numbers = more enhanced.
Why this rating?
Equipoise is a testosterone-derived steroid that aromatizes at roughly 50% the rate of testosterone (steroid.com profile; 100:50 anabolic:androgenic ratio). While milder than many steroids, its significant increase in erythropoietin (EPO) and red blood cell production, a mechanism Wikipedia's pharmacology summary confirms for boldenone, provides endurance enhancement impossible naturally, and is part of why user-reported detection windows run up to 5+ months, among the longest of any anabolic steroid. Typical doses of 300-600mg/week over 12-20 week cycles produce steady lean mass gains beyond natural limits.
Overview
A veterinary-grade injectable anabolic steroid derived from testosterone with a unique double-bond structure. Originally developed for horses, EQ provides steady, quality gains with enhanced vascularity, appetite stimulation, and significant increases in red blood cell production.
Important Warnings
- •Extremely long detection time (5+ months) makes it unsuitable for tested athletes
- •Can cause severe anxiety in some users - discontinue if problematic
- •Monitor blood thickness (hematocrit) closely - elevated RBC is the primary health concern
- •Requires longer cycles (12+ weeks) to see full results
- •No legitimate pharmaceutical-grade product exists for humans - all sources are underground/veterinary
- •Classified as a probable human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), per USADA
- •Do not reflexively add an AI. EQ often runs estrogen LOW, and crashing E2 causes joint pain, low libido and mood issues
Purpose & Use Cases
Lean Mass Building
Provides slow, steady gains of quality muscle with minimal water retention compared to testosterone.
Endurance Enhancement
Significantly increases red blood cell production and EPO, improving oxygen delivery and cardiovascular endurance.
Appetite Stimulation
Known for dramatically increasing appetite, which can be beneficial during bulking phases.
Vascularity
Creates enhanced vascularity and a "dry" aesthetic look due to low water retention.
Benefits
- Quality lean muscle gains with minimal water retention
- Significant increase in red blood cell production and endurance
- Enhanced vascularity and muscle definition
- Strong appetite stimulation for easier bulking
- Lower estrogenic activity than testosterone (50% aromatization rate)
- Well-suited for longer cycles due to mild nature
- No hepatotoxicity (not 17-alpha-alkylated)
Good to Know
Red blood cells are the real risk, and the reason for its long detection
EQ is a potent EPO stimulator, so hematocrit climbs and blood thickens; donating blood is the actual management tool, not just aspirin. That same EPO/metabolite activity underlies its 5+ month detection window, the longest of any common steroid.
On EQ, estrogen usually runs LOW. Do not reflexively add an AI
Because boldenone's metabolites have mild anti-aromatase activity and it converts to estrogen at only ~half testosterone's rate, adding an AI on top often crashes E2, joint pain, flat libido and mood. Run a 2:1 test:EQ ratio and only add an AI if bloodwork confirms high estrogen.
A slow compound that needs long cycles
Effects are not really felt until weeks 4-6 and it is run 12-20 weeks, so it is a poor fit for short cycles. Always paired with a testosterone base.
Not a DHT-derivative: low hair risk, finasteride largely irrelevant
Being testosterone-derived with low 5-AR affinity, EQ is gentle on the hairline for most, and finasteride does little either way. As with any anabolic, muscle memory means retained gains keep your natural ceiling higher afterward.
Dosage Guidelines
| Experience Level | Dosage Range |
|---|---|
| Beginner | 300 – 400 mg/week |
| Intermediate | 400 – 600 mg/week |
| Advanced | 600 – 900 mg/week |
EQ has no approved human dosing. Ranges reflect community/harm-reduction consensus (e.g. steroid.com cites 200-600mg/week for men), not clinical data. EQ requires longer cycles (minimum 12 weeks) due to very long ester. Effects typically not noticeable until weeks 4-6. Must always be run with a testosterone base. Common ratio is 2:1 Test:EQ to prevent low estrogen symptoms.
Side Effects
Anxiety
commonMany users report increased anxiety and restlessness, sometimes called "EQ anxiety." May be related to neurochemical effects or AI-like estrogen suppression.
Lower dose or discontinue if severe. Ensure adequate estrogen levels by running higher testosterone ratio.
Elevated Hematocrit
very commonSignificant increase in red blood cell count (hematocrit) can thicken blood dangerously, increasing stroke and cardiovascular risk.
Regular blood donation, monitoring hematocrit levels (keep below 54%), stay hydrated, consider naringin supplementation.
Low Estrogen Symptoms
commonEQ and its metabolites can act as aromatase inhibitors, potentially crashing estrogen when run at high doses relative to testosterone.
Run testosterone at 2:1 or higher ratio to EQ. Avoid additional AI use unless bloodwork confirms high E2.
Testosterone Suppression
very commonComplete suppression of natural testosterone production during use.
Always run with testosterone base. Proper PCT required after cycle.
Hair Loss
uncommonCan accelerate male pattern baldness in genetically predisposed individuals.
5-alpha reductase inhibitors have limited effectiveness as EQ has low affinity for this enzyme.
Acne
uncommonAndrogenic side effect, less common than with testosterone.
Standard acne protocols if needed.
General Mitigation Strategies
Monitor hematocrit regularly via bloodwork - donate blood if elevated above 54%. Be cautious with AI use as EQ has anti-estrogenic metabolites that can crash estrogen. Run testosterone at higher ratio (2:1 Test:EQ). Address anxiety issues promptly - may require dose reduction.
Support Supplements
Ancillary supplements commonly run alongside Equipoise to manage side effects, support the target tissue, or fill nutrient demands it creates.
Hematocrit management (donate blood / phlebotomy)
KeyEQ is a strong EPO stimulator and raises red blood cell count more than most steroids. High hematocrit thickens blood and raises clot/stroke risk; donation is the actual fix.
- Dose
- Donate when hematocrit trends high (guided by bloodwork; keep below ~54%)
- Timing
- As needed per labs
Lipid support (omega-3 + citrus bergamot)
Supports cholesterol over the long cycles EQ requires. Omega-3 helps triglycerides; citrus bergamot lowers LDL via statin-like flavonoids.
- Dose
- Omega-3 2-4 g/day; citrus bergamot 500-1,000 mg/day
- Timing
- With meals
Blood pressure support (telmisartan / low-dose tadalafil)
Elevated hematocrit and long cycles can push blood pressure up; telmisartan controls BP and tadalafil supports endothelial/erectile function.
- Dose
- Telmisartan 20-40 mg/day; tadalafil 2.5-5 mg/day
- Timing
- Daily; titrate to readings
Post Cycle Therapy (PCT)
Very long half-life requires waiting 4-6 weeks after last injection before starting PCT. Use Nolvadex (40/40/20/20) or Clomid (50/50/25/25) for 4-6 weeks. Extended PCT may be needed after longer cycles.
How It Works
Boldenone is a prodrug - the undecylenate ester is cleaved in muscle tissue to release active boldenone. It binds to androgen receptors, activating pathways for protein synthesis and nitrogen retention. Notably, it stimulates erythropoietin (EPO) release from kidneys, dramatically increasing red blood cell production. It aromatizes at approximately 50% the rate of testosterone due to its structural modification (double bond between C1 and C2).
Hormonal & Androgenic Profile
100:50 (boldenone): anabolic like testosterone, roughly half as androgenic
Aromatizes at roughly half testosterone's rate, but its metabolites can act as mild aromatase inhibitors, so with EQ high relative to test estrogen tends to run LOW rather than high. Run testosterone at ~2:1 and avoid adding an AI unless bloodwork confirms high E2. Crashing estrogen is the more common mistake here.
Boldenone has low affinity for 5-alpha-reductase, so finasteride/dutasteride do little for it. Hair risk is relatively low but not zero.
Strongly raises hematocrit/red blood cells via EPO stimulation, its defining health concern; thickened blood raises clot and stroke risk. Manage with blood donation and monitor lipids and BP.

Common Stacks
- EQ + Testosterone (2:1 ratio) - Classic combination for quality gains
- EQ + Test + Primobolan - Quality lean mass stack
- EQ + Test + Anavar - Cutting/recomp stack with enhanced vascularity
Detection Times
One of the longest detection times of any steroid, user-reported windows of up to 5+ months (community/harm-reduction consensus, not an official WADA-published figure). Primary metabolite detected is 5-beta-androst-1-en-17-beta-ol-3-one (BM1). Because boldenone can occur naturally at very low background levels, WADA labs use carbon isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GC/C/IRMS) to distinguish doping from natural occurrence; once use is confirmed, no threshold allowance applies.
Legal Status
Schedule III controlled substance (USA). Not approved for human use: veterinary only.
Legal status varies by country and changes over time. This is a general summary, not legal advice.
WADA Status
Boldenone (Equipoise) is explicitly prohibited. Has one of the longest detection windows (5+ months) of any anabolic steroid.
