Warning signs and when to seek care
For everyone. This is the one entry whose whole point is knowing when to abandon the plan.
- 1Chest pain, stroke signs, breathlessness, or a hot swollen calf. Call emergency services now.
- 2Jaundice, dark urine, back-radiating belly pain, or a spreading hot injection site. Stop and be seen soon.
- 3A lump behind the nipple, big mood changes, or blood pressure that stays up. Take seriously and get checked.
- 4Tell the clinician what you took, it’s what lets them help you fast, and confidentiality applies.
Most of this site is about doing things carefully. This entry is about the moments when careful no longer applies, when a symptom means the right move is to stop and get medical help, not to push through to the end of a cycle. The instinct to hide use from a doctor is exactly what turns a manageable problem into an emergency. Clinicians treat these situations routinely, and being honest about what you took is what lets them help. If something here is happening, act on it.
Call emergency services now
The following point to a clot, a heart problem, or a stroke, time-critical events where minutes matter. This is an emergency-services call, not a "see how it goes."
- Chest pain or pressure, or pain spreading to the arm, jaw, or back.
- Sudden shortness of breath, especially with chest pain that worsens on breathing in (possible clot on the lung).
- Face drooping, arm weakness, or slurred speech: the stroke signs; act immediately.
- A painful, swollen, warm calf or leg (possible deep-vein clot).
- Sudden severe headache unlike any before, or sudden vision or balance loss.
Androgens thicken the blood by raising red-cell mass. Above a hematocrit of roughly 54% the clot and stroke risk climbs, which is why these symptoms are taken seriously in anyone using them, and why hematocrit is worth tracking before it gets there.
Stop and get medical care promptly
These are not always emergencies in the same minutes-matter sense, but they mean stop the compound and be seen soon rather than continuing.
- Liver
- Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, pale stools, right-upper-quadrant pain, or severe itching. Stop orals and seek care.
- Pancreas (esp. GLP-1s)
- Severe, persistent abdominal pain that radiates to the back, with nausea or vomiting, a pancreatitis red flag.
- Gallbladder
- Upper-right abdominal pain with fever and nausea, sometimes after rapid weight loss.
- Injection site
- Spreading redness, warmth, swelling, or pus with fever, a spreading infection needs treatment, not another injection.
Take seriously and get checked
- A tender lump forming behind the nipple (early gynecomastia), reversible early, less so later.
- Marked mood changes, aggression, or any thoughts of self-harm. These are real effects, not weakness, and warrant help.
- Blood pressure that stays high, persistent headaches, or unusual swelling.
- Resting heart symptoms: palpitations, unusual breathlessness on exertion that is new for you.
A doctor cannot treat what they cannot see. Naming the compound, dose, and duration is not something to be judged for. It is the information that lets them act correctly and fast. Confidentiality applies.
This describes how warning signs is done, and where it goes wrong. It is not a recommendation to do it, and it does not cover where to obtain anything. It is written on the assumption that the reader has already made that decision and would otherwise proceed without accurate information. Nothing here is medical advice: the safest version of every practice above still involves a clinician and lab work.
